About the Role
The Associate Director – Statistical Services is responsible for global biostatistics activities (specifically statistical programming) and also manages Biostatistical resources in India and other locations in the organization, as applicable.
The Associate Director - Statistical Services leads all biostatistics activities, including support of the Business Development group, team recruiting and building, as well as being responsible for departmental coordination and study resourcing as it relates to biostatisticians and statistical programming
Your Responsibilities
- Serve as a consultant for other members of the biostatistics department and staff members from other departments within the company.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of developments in biostatistics/statistical programming and clinical trial methodology, and regulatory requirements that impact on analyses.
- Coordinate and manage internal and contracted staff in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and guiding professional development; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems. Approve actions on human resources matters.
- Work as the lead and participate in project meetings; keep up to date on project issues.
- Coordinate and participate in process improvements and interoffice/ interdepartmental task forces; oversee collection and reporting of Biostatistics metrics, implementation of revised work practices, new guidelines, and new software tools as they become available.
- Make recommendations about resource allocation for team members so as to achieve target utilization rates and project realization rates.
- Support strategy and development of organizational data analytics, as required.
- Assist in the following: Sales meetings as required.
- Overseeing proposal preparation.
- Ensuring that all proposals bid by the department have an adequate budget, and sufficiently detailed set of budget assumptions.
- Provide training, guidance and mentorship to junior and new staff.
- Manage finance for the statistical services department.
- Assist in business development and relationship building with the client.
Training, Quality and Compliance
- Complete mandatory training for this role within specified timelines
- Attend mandatory training sessions required for this role
- Identify resources and training to support learning and development within this role
- Comply with all applicable regulations, guidelines, SOPs and project-specific requirements
- Comply with all designated systems relevant to this role
- Ensure own quality control of all relevant processes and activities performed
- Report and escalate identified risks and issues in areas of responsibility according to Emerald Clinical and/or project requirements
Customer Focus and Teamwork
- Attend and actively participate in Emerald Clinical meetings and other internal meetings and activities as required
- Provide input to systems, tools and processes to support continuous improvement
- Share knowledge with others, to facilitate learning and development across the organization
Work Health and Safety
- Comply with Work Health & Safety (WH&S) legislation and operate in accordance with established organizational WH&S practice and procedures
- Promote and contribute to a safe, secure environment for staff and visitors
Education and Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Biostatistics/ Engineering or science related field
- Minimum 14 years’ experience in Biostatistics/statistical programming related work. Prior experience in the CRO environment is preferable
- Hands-on experience in SAS Programming
Competencies
- Ability and motivated to learn and develop, including sharing knowledge with others
- Prior people management experience is preferable.
- Technological proficiency including Microsoft Office packages
- Ability to see the big picture, yet still focus on detail and quality of work
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
