About the Role
As Manager, Proposal Development you will lead Emerald Clinical’s proposal development function across the region (US and Europe) - overseeing a small, high-performing team while also serving as a hands-on proposal manager for complex, strategic bids.
You will be responsible for coordinating the full proposal lifecycle, driving quality, consistency, and competitiveness across all submissions. Working closely with Business Development, Scientific Leadership, and Operational teams, you’ll ensure each proposal effectively showcases Emerald’s scientific and operational strengths, aligns with client needs, and contributes to our overall business growth.
This is a hybrid leadership and individual contributor position, ideal for someone who enjoys both mentoring a team and taking ownership of key deliverables.
Your Responsibilities
• Lead, coach, and develop a regional team of proposal managers and specialists, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
• Manage the end-to-end proposal process for assigned opportunities, from RFP receipt to final submission.
• Review workload allocation, prioritise assignments, and ensure on-time delivery of proposals with consistent quality.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Business Development, Finance, Operations, and Scientific Leadership to align proposals with client requirements and internal capabilities.
• Oversee pricing inputs, risk assessment, and executive summaries to ensure strategic positioning and commercial competitiveness.
• Serve as the main point of contact for regional proposal development, contributing to global best practices and process improvement initiatives.
• Track proposal performance metrics and feedback to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
• Support complex rebids, amendments, and scope changes as needed.
• Maintain proposal templates, trackers, and databases to ensure information accuracy and version control.
About You
• Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, English, Communications, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in proposal development within a CRO.
• Proven leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and manage a distributed team.
• Strong understanding of clinical research business models, service scopes, and pricing principles.
• Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills with attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and proposal management tools.
• Strategic thinker with strong project management, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable operating in a global, fast-paced, and matrixed environment.
